While the article is discussing the SSD drives as an option for IBM’s DS8000 Disk Storage system, it has alot of really good information about SSD drives. It discusses topics such as SSD Endurance and advantages over traditional spinning disks.

While it was a nice article, I was hoping that they would have included suggestions or options for changing out current IBM laptop hard drives for SSDs. I recently acquired an IBM Thinkpad X41 tablet, and I know that there are people who have traded out the tiny 1.8 inch 4200 RPM hard drive for SSD drives and have experienced quite a performance boost.
Thanks for the comments. Yes, the paper was geared more towards the enterprise. Personally, I would think swapping out an internal spinning disk for an SSD would be pretty straightforward. Especially if both devices used the same IDE interface. I know some online retailers now offer 1.8″ and 2.5″ SSD’s.
